There is something about a bright white bathroom that just feels classic and clean. Our house has 4 bathrooms and 3 of them are white. I love a classic white bathroom and when we bought our house, renovating our master bathroom was at the top of my priority list.

Our house was built in 1978 and while there were definitely renovations done over the years, our master bathroom was very dated. The previous owners clearly loved a traditional brown look because our master bathroom was all brown – the vanities and the mirrors. They even had a brown cabinet over the toilet.

Coastal Master Bathroom

My style is coastal, and I wanted to incorporate that in our white master bathroom renovation while keeping the look very classic and versatile. But before I pull the trigger on purchasing pretty much anything for the house, I build a mood board first. I cannot stress this enough. I get asked all the time from friends “what do you think about this? Do you like this pillow for our sofa?” And my answer is always the same: “I don’t know! We need to build a mood board!”

Always build a mood board. It can completely change the game on what you end up picking based on how it all works together. I use THIS site. It’s free, it’s easy, and it’s shareable. Throw in multiple options for furniture and decor and narrow it down to what you love the most and what coordinates the best. Feel free to share it and get opinions too. It’s always great to have a second set of eyes on something, especially if you’re on the fence.

White Bathroom Vanities

I considered just painting the existing vanities white to save money, but I hated the countertops. So I found the most amazing white bathroom vanities at Wayfair. They were so beautiful, I ordered the same style for 2 of our other bathrooms!

These vanities are 48” wide and have a gorgeous quartz countertop. They also have panel details on the doors and drawers and offer great storage. We’ve had these for over 2 years, and I would buy them over and over again. The quality is fantastic!

I paired them with a very budget-friendly American Standard faucet in brushed nickel.

Bathroom Vanities Facing Each Other

Our master bathroom has an interesting layout where our vanities face each other. It’s actually pretty convenient because my husband and I have designated areas to get ready and aren’t constantly bumping into each other!

If we end up staying here long term, I want to completely gut our bathroom. Not because of the vanity situation, but because we don’t have a bathtub in the master, which is a bummer. We actually only have one bathtub in the house, in our guest bathroom.

I would love to relocate our master closet (our bedroom is huge) and put a clawfoot tub in it’s place!

White Bathroom with Gray Floors

The existing tile in our master bathroom was gray. I picked out a gorgeous white hexagon tile in our last master bathroom and thought about updating these floors to something similar. But since we were doing so much renovation on the house, I had to prioritize what to change and what to keep.

If you are working within a budget, make a list of your most important updates with the associated cost of each so you can decide what you can and can’t live with. Of course, we all want to change everything but it’s just not always the most economical!

The existing gray tile actually looks really nice with our white vanities.

Subway Tile

When I like something, I run with it, and I tend to be pretty consistent with my designs. To say I love subway tile is an understatement, and we have it in every single bathroom. I opted for 3 rows of tile above each vanity to help keep splashing water off of our walls.

If you love a certain design, don’t be afraid to use it in multiple spaces. I know a lot of designers like to mix it up and have every room be unique, but I like to tie in some of the same elements throughout the house. It just helps things feel really cohesive.

Round Mirror

I found these beautiful large round silver mirrors at Home Depot that I thought would look great with our white bathroom vanities. Choose a mirror that is no more than a few inches shorter than your bathroom vanity (unless you have plugs or other obstacles to decorate around). These mirrors are 42”, which is the perfect size for our vanities.

White Bathroom Decor

I like to keep things simple, especially when it comes to bathroom decor. We already have a lot of things happening on bathroom counters with brushing teeth, washing faces, doing makeup and hair, etc. Keep your counters as clear as possible to minimize unnecessary clutter.

On my husband’s vanity, I put a box of tissues with a wicker cover and the most AMAZING fake plant that I wish I had bought more of and now I can’t even find it. This was one of those random weekend Target runs where I saw it and was like WOW this looks real! It really does. Some of the leaves are even dying in the most realistic way. I’m so bummed I can’t find it, but HERE is another great option.

On my vanity, I have a tall navy striped vase with mdried pampas and a candle I found at Home Goods. I am usually not a fan of Home Goods candles but this one smells amazing. I bought the vase several years ago from Hobby Lobby online and it’s ultra-coastal. Here are some other options that have a similar vibe.

For candles, I love anything Studio McGee does. I have her Pura scents in our house, and they smell incredible. She and I must have very similar taste in smells because her scents always smell so good to me.

turkish hand towel

These Turkish towels are from a shop on Etsy where I buy all of our hand towels. They have so many options, the quality is great,  and the price is unbeatable.

Hand Soap

Our hand soap is from a cute Amazon shop, and I love it! I originally had the Amazon basics glass hand soap with a nickel pump, but it rusted so bad. Opt for plastic pumps to keep your dispensers rust free.

I chose the Coconut + Sandalwood scent, but they have several to choose from. The soap is really moisturizing, and the packaging is adorable.

Above the Toilet Decor

Who doesn’t want cute decor above their toilet? We ripped out the old brown cabinet that was above our toilet, and I looked for a natural material shelf. I found the prettiest handmade coastal-inspired hanging shelf at Home Goods.

I picked up some small decor pieces at Target, and I just love how it turned out! It’s also very functional. It’s the perfect place to store extra toilet paper along with my new obsession – Flush Ritual. This is the same brand as our hand soap. Everyone poops but no one wants to smell it. This stuff makes the toilet smell like essential oils, and I’m living for it!
