When I was choosing fixtures for our coastal bathroom, I knew I wanted something classic that wouldn’t feel dated in a few years. I have always loved polished nickel. It has a soft, warm shine that feels elevated, timeless, and it pairs perfectly with crisp whites and coastal blues. I get major Nantucket vibes with this finish! I mixed metals in our last house (mix of gold and satin nickel), but I plan on using polished nickel exclusively through our entire home this time for a classic cohesive look.
Why Polished Nickel Works in a Coastal Bathroom

Polished nickel has a soft warmth that chrome just can’t match. It feels more timeless than brass to me, which can lean a little trend-driven depending on the finish. In a coastal bathroom, that warmth makes all the difference! It brings in a subtle golden undertone that complements a blue and white palette without overpowering it. Plus, it gives your home a classic, elevated finish that feels fresh now and will still look just as good many years from now.
Polished Nickel in Every Detail

From faucets to towel hooks, polished nickel was the detail that pulled this bathroom together. The sink faucet brings an elegant touch to the navy vanity, while the bathtub and shower faucets have a nostalgic feel with their porcelain accents and curved handles. Even the smaller pieces like towel bars, hooks, and the toilet paper holder add an elevated finish that makes the design feel intentional.
Cabinet Knobs

I debated between mixing knobs and pulls but ultimately decided that all knobs would be a more understated simple look. Since our vanity was navy blue and we had the center storage tower, I thought the simplicity of all knobs would keep it from looking busy.
I originally picked a beautiful beaded knob, but it was unfortunately on backorder when we needed it. As a backup, I selected a classic polished nickel knob with a softly domed top. I really love this knob and think it complements our vanity perfectly.
Bathroom Sink Faucets

Our classic polished nickel sink faucet is from Kingston Brass and was the first fixture we bought. I love it so much. It has a graceful design and looks much more expensive than it actually was! The faucet head is moveable which is really convenient when you’re washing your face or cleaning the sink.
Bathtub & Shower Faucets

For the shower and bathtub faucets, I wanted a nostalgic 50’s-inspired look. I think polished nickel paired with ceramic “hot” and “cold” labels is absolutely adorable!
I wanted the bathtub faucet to be wall-mounted from the subway tile versus coming up from the floor since our bathroom is on the smaller side. This kept the floor open and spacious.

For the shower, I wanted a system with a separate handheld sprayer. This carried a much more premium price tag than if we had gone for a shower head/sprayer combo, but it is a spa-like upgrade that was well worth the investment!

Shower Glass Hardware

For our custom frameless shower glass, our contractor used a simple polished nickel handle and we added a towel hook directly on the glass. I hang my robe here for easy access when stepping out of the shower!

Towel Rings, Toilet Paper Holder, & Door Hooks

Our towel rings, toilet paper holder, and door hooks are all Delta brand. Even the smallest detail, like a toilet paper holder, makes an impact when it’s polished nickel. It’s subtle, but it keeps the entire bathroom consistent and finished.

Vanity Lights

Our vanity lights are one of my favorite accents in this entire bathroom. I chose the 3-light Amelie sconce from Ballard Designs. It matches our vanity faucet perfectly — almost like they were designed with each other in mind! The classic polished nickel and white shades adds the perfect coastal touch to our space.
Why Polished Nickel Wins Over Other Finishes
It’s easy to get caught up in what’s trendy, but a classic coastal bathroom should feel timeless. Chrome can come off cold, brass can lean a little too trendy, but polished nickel hits that sweet spot. It’s warm without being flashy and has the kind of classic look that doesn’t go out of style.
The Finishing Touch
With the polished nickel fixtures in place, the bathroom finally started to feel like itself. These details may seem small, but they’re what give the room its classic, coastal look. Next up, I’ll be sharing the decorating and styling—the mirrors, lighting, and natural textures that layer in warmth and personality.
I hope this post gave you some inspiration for your coastal bathroom renovation. Happy decorating!

Stick to a soft cloth and mild soap. Harsh cleaners or abrasive pads can scratch the finish. A quick wipe-down keeps polished nickel shiny without much effort.
Chrome has a cooler, almost bluish tone that can read sterile. Polished nickel, on the other hand, has a warmer undertone that feels richer and more inviting—perfect for coastal bathrooms.
