Classic Coastal Christmas Front Porch Decor with Plaid Bows

Last Updated on December 31, 2024

Get inspired with the cutest coastal Christmas front porch decor with festive navy and red plaid bows.

I just love to decorate with bows for Christmas. There’s something about bows that really puts me in the holiday spirit! Our Christmas tree topper is a giant velvet bow, and I think it’s an adorable statement piece.

My best friend decorates her front porch with different bows for every season, and they’re so cute. I had her make me a handful of Christmas bows for our front porch and they turned out perfectly! Read below to see how I incorporated these plaid bows into our Coastal Christmas front porch.

Navy and Red Plaid Bows for Planters

These Nantucket planters have been a favorite of mine for years now. I bought them in 2021 and they’re the perfect Coastal front porch accent for literally every season! I wrote a post on how to decorate them for the holidays, so I already had Christmas decor to fill the planters. Adding bows to them just helps to add a bit more festive flair!

I chose navy and red plaid for our bows instead of a traditional black and red buffalo check to complement my coastal style. Look for fabrics that incorporate nautical blues with classic Christmas colors like red or green and make sure your bow is wired, so it will hold its shape.

My best friend makes her bows by hand, which is such a skill! Luckily, you do not have to be crafty to make a bow. A Bowdabra is the easiest tool you can use to make the most beautiful bows. I use it for gift wrapping every year. Just watch a quick YouTube tutorial on how to use it, and you are good to go!

These planters are made of waterproof polyethylene material, and it was super easy to affix the bows. Use Velcro mounting adhesive and place them at the top of your planters. The only time I had to readjust them was after a heavy snowfall. Otherwise, they held up great!

I have 3 planters but only placed bows on 2 of them. I didn’t want it to be bow overkill!

Plaid Christmas Wreath for Front Door

My best friend also made this adorable 18” wreath, which is 100% natural grapevine. She draped pine stems and small pinecones across the top of the wreath and placed the navy and red plaid bow at the top center. Use zip ties to secure the bow into place.

The finishing touch was the most adorable red vintage pickup truck that she zip-tied on lower center section of the wreath. The Christmas tree in the bed of the truck lights up, which really brightens up the front porch! It runs on a battery with a little switch on the bottom, so it’s easy to turn on and off.

Coastal Christmas Front Porch Doormat

I keep the same coastal blue and white striped outdoor rug on the porch all year round and layer in seasonal doormats. For Christmas, I chose a navy ‘Let it Snow’ holiday doormat mainly because I wanted to keep it out past Christmas! If you want a doormat that you can use beyond the month of December, definitely pick one that’s not overly Christmasy.

I get all my doormats at Target. Check them out about a month before the new season starts. My exact doormat is out of stock, but I found a great alternative HERE that I actually like better than mine!
