Coastal style brings such a calming, fresh vibe to a bedroom. Whether you live near the beach or just want to infuse your space seaside serenity (like me!), coastal wall art is an easy and impactful way to bring the beach in. From ocean-inspired prints to driftwood sculptures, the right wall decor can totally transform your bedroom into a tranquil coastal retreat.

I’ll be sharing some of my favorite coastal wall art styles, creative ways to display them, and tips for styling your space so you can effortlessly capture that breezy, laid-back beach feeling — no matter where you live!

Why Choose Coastal Wall Art for Your Bedroom?

Coastal style is all about light, airiness, and natural elements that evoke the feeling of being by the sea. Wall art really helps pull the look together and sets the mood for your bedroom design. Whether it’s a serene ocean photograph, a rustic piece made from driftwood, or an abstract painting in beachy hues, coastal wall art can bring a sense of calm and peace to your space. It’s the perfect way to make yourself feel like you’re on a literal vacation even when you’re thousands of miles away!

Popular Coastal Wall Art Styles

Abstract Coastal Colors

This is probably one of my favorite ways to incorporate coastal wall art in a bedroom, or any room for that matter. What’s great about choosing a more abstract wall art design is that it nods to coastal style by bringing in all the right colors without being overly beachy.

Look for abstract art in coastal colors like soft blues, sandy beige, seafoam green, and crisp white. These pieces evoke a seaside vibe in a more modern and sophisticated way while still maintaining that calming beach vibe we’re going for!

Ocean and Beach Photography

One of the most popular coastal art styles is photography featuring waves, sandy beaches, sunsets, and seascapes. These prints instantly create a peaceful vibe and work well as large statement pieces or part of a gallery wall. When selecting photography, look for calming, muted tones to bring out a more relaxing feeling, which is perfect for your bedroom.

I went with a gorgeous beach photography art piece (#4 above) to put over our dresser. It makes me feel so peaceful every time I look at it! To see more art pics and the easy upgrade I made to our Ikea Hemnes dresser, click HERE.

Nautical and Marine Themes

If you love a classic beach house or Nantucket-inspired look, nautical and marine-themed art is perfect! Think anchors, shells, sailboats, and sea creatures like starfish and seahorses. These pieces can be subtle and elegant or bold and graphic, depending on your style. Adding these elements gives your bedroom a playful nod to the coast without overwhelming the space.

Driftwood and Natural Materials

Incorporating natural materials like driftwood brings an organic touch to coastal wall art. Driftwood frames, sculptures, or wall hangings create texture and interest, reminding you of the rugged beauty of the shoreline. These pieces also add warmth and depth to light, airy rooms.

Creative Ways to Display Coastal Wall Art

Gallery Wall

Creating a gallery wall with a mix of coastal prints, photographs, and 3D pieces like shells or driftwood can be a stunning focal point. Use varying frame styles and sizes for visual interest and play with layouts before hanging to find the perfect balance.

I personally have never done a gallery wall, but I think they look great when done correctly. Instead, I opt for 2-3 matching frames to hang together, which I’ll share more of below!

Styling Two or Three Coastal Prints Above the Bed

One of the easiest and most visually balanced ways to decorate the wall above your bed is with a set of two or three coordinating art pieces. This arrangement adds symmetry and structure while still leaving room for creativity and personal style. For a coastal look, try pairing ocean photography with soft abstract prints or mix seashell illustrations with watercolor waves.

Keep spacing consistent between the frames (typically 3-4 inches apart) and hang them 4-8″ above your dresser or bed. This setup works beautifully above queen- or king-size beds and helps anchor the room’s focal point without overwhelming it. Choose frames in light wood, white, or weathered finishes to stay in line with that breezy, beachy vibe.

Oversized Statement Pieces

If you prefer simplicity, an oversized canvas or framed print above your bed or dresser can create a powerful statement. Just be sure to balance large artwork with other room elements so it doesn’t overpower the space. I really like this bold approach!

Tips for Styling Coastal Wall Art in Bedrooms

To create a truly cohesive coastal look, think beyond just the artwork:

  • Pair your wall art with bedding and pillows in coordinating coastal colors — soft blues, whites, and sandy neutrals.
  • Layer natural textures like linen curtains, woven baskets, or jute rugs to enhance the beachy feel.
  • Use soft, warm lighting to highlight your art and create a cozy, inviting atmosphere.
  • Don’t be afraid to mix and match styles — combining abstract pieces with photography or natural elements can make your space feel curated and unique.

Coastal wall art is one of the simplest yet most beautiful ways to infuse your bedroom with the relaxing spirit of the seaside. Whether you prefer serene ocean photography, rustic driftwood pieces, or abstract coastal colors, this style is versatile enough, no matter what direction you want to take it.

I hope this post gave you some good coastal wall art ideas for your bedroom. Happy decorating!

FAQ: Coastal Wall Art in Bedrooms

What kind of wall art looks best in a coastal bedroom?

Wall art that features ocean photography, beach landscapes, nautical elements, or abstract pieces in soft blues, sandy neutrals, and white tones works beautifully in coastal bedrooms. Natural textures like driftwood or sea grass also add to the beachy vibe.

How do I choose the right size wall art for above a bed?

For a balanced look, aim for artwork that spans about two-thirds the width of your bed. You can go with one large piece or a pair/trio of smaller prints hung 3-5 inches apart.

Can I mix different coastal styles in one gallery wall?

Yes! Mixing textures and themes — like pairing ocean photography with shell sketches or abstract wave prints — adds depth and interest. Just keep a cohesive color palette to tie everything together.

Where’s the best place to buy affordable coastal wall art?

I get most of my art at Wayfair because they have a huge selection and you can find nice art that doesn’t cost a fortune. But I also look at Pottery Barn (pricier but they do have sales!), One Kings Lane (they have some gorgeous unique pieces), Amazon, and World Market. I’ve also really been liking Giri Designs and Shutter + Frame for their coastal art assortment.
